Neptune's Daughters "Splashback to the '80s" Float Drawings

Tonight. Neptune's Daughters will parade through downtown Mobile, Alabama with a theme of "Splashback to the 80s", featuring 14 floats designed by ME and built by Craig Stephens and Carnival Artists.
We only designed 8 new floats this year, as the organization has a few 'permanent' floats- including their 'title' float-- and chose to re-roll a few, as well.
Here, you can see the finished drawings, followed by the rough design sketches used for approval:

In the above drawing, "CLUE" was one of the original suggestions, but later discarded, hence 'Colonel Mustard on the game board with clues and weapons'.....

More Mardi Gras Fun Info!

Well, another Carnival season has come and is almost gone...!
Nice weather and record-setting crowds graced the streets of downtown Mobile for some memorable Mardi Gras parades, making for some true "Bon Temps"...!
This year, The NEPTUNE'S DAUGHTERS theme was about famous people from Alabama "Stars Fell on Alabama" and featured a float honoring Joe Cain , the man widely recognized as reviving Mardi Gras in Mobile after the "War of Northern Aggression". You can read about him and the holiday set aside in his honor HERE .

For over 25 years, "Joe Cain as Chief Slacabamarinico" has been portrayed by Reverend Wayne Dean, and, when possible, the sculptors try to give the figure his likeness.

Sometimes, this isn't always the case, and the figure will generally more closely resemble the ACTUAL Joe Cain-- based on historical reference and archival photographs.

Heck, I'm even considering making a Comic about the Carnival Mardi Gras Adventures of Chief Slac:
Do you think it would sell...?

Regardless, it's ALL done in the 'Spirit of Mardi Gras', and enjoyed by all!

A THRILL To See My Name In The Credits...! Busy, Busy, Busy...!

Well, the "Phineas & Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension" movie has aired on The Disney Channel, Disney XD, and ABC. I was privileged to be a (VERY small) part of the production, and tickled to actually get a screen credit for my tiny contribution!
I rendered some early-stage storyboard roughs for the musical number early in the movie where Dr. Doofenshmirtz meets his even MORE evil doppelganger from the 2nd Dimension. He is the ruler of this universe, and they perform a song-and-dance called "I've Found a Brand New Best Friend (And It's Me!)"

Working on a poster for The Order of LaShe's, one of the Mobile Mardi Gras krewes. Also roughing out comps for a "Queen's Train" for next year's Neptune's Daughters queen.

Getting ready to start the year's final parade, the Children's Floral.
