BACK!! Back From Back Surgery!

Well, I FINALLY went and had Back Surgery! VERY sore from my new "Spinal Cord Stimulator", but it seems to be having the desired effect-- I CAN SIT! Sit to draw, sit to drive... Just have to get used to a foreign object residing in my body sending electrical impulses, blocking my recurring nerve pain.
"PEANUTS" homage, featuring a Schulz-style caricature of my lovely wife Alice...!
While I've been away dealing with pain and OTHER personal issues, I DID make time to do a few "Halloween-themed" drawings of a few folks and myself....
Another Charles Schulz tribute featuring Jax and me....

...Oh, and HERE's one of famous radio personality and lifestyle coach/guru Henry Pennington from "The Uncle Henry Show".

New Image of "Uncle Henry & Gertie the Wonder Pug"

Here's a rendering of Mobile's legendary Henry Pennington from "The Uncle Henry Show" and his faithful sidekick, Gertie! I have several variations, and am trying color combinations and different styles!
"The Adventures of UNCLE HENRY and GERTIE!"
Here's a version promoting the radio broadcast, as well as the web and live streaming versions:

LAGNIAPPE Debate Coverage 'Disses' Dr. Brown?

The Lagniappe Newspaper, the bi-weekly publication that dubs itself "Something Extra For Mobile", showed a complete lack of respect for mayoral candidate Dr. Doris Brown on their website coverage (which can be seen HERE .) following Tuesday night's debate.
The article, written by Katie Nichols, extensively documents the experienced and well-thought-out responses of both incumbent Mayor Sam Jones and challenger Sandy Stimpson, while completely ignoring the colorful and imaginative Brown. Could this be some hidden agenda or liberal media bias...?
I seriously doubt it.
Apparently, Lagniappe chooses to actually cover THE ISSUES, rather than the 'pie-in-the-sky' ramblings of this character who migrated from Detroit with a store-bought on-line 'doctorate' and a hairpiece to rival that of NewsRadio710AM's Uncle Henry.
Oh, and little or no actual knowledge of Mobile or the workings of civic government.

Good call, Lagniappe.

"Uncle Henry" Investigates 'Entertainment District'

NewsRadio710's Uncle Henry recently accosted some folks in downtown Mobile to get to the bottom of the heavily --and seemingly unfair-- gerrymandered new 'entertainment district'.\

"Norman" Appears on "The Uncle Henry Show"

"The Uncle Henry Show" featured "Norman" as a guest this morning from 6:00 a.m until 8:00 a.m. 'on the air' at WNTM NewsRadio710AM, and for the internet hour from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 over at www.newsradio710.com.
Topics ranged from Obamacare & health insurance, gospel music, crime and Mobile police effectiveness to the 'Moonpie Drop' and- of course- to blimps.
"Alabama Football recruiting" was also a topic, for good measure.

Some Photoshop for Uncle Henry

Here is a little composition that I put together for Uncle Henry, featuring a couple of Alabama Crimson Tide icons and a Superman painting by the unequaled Alex Ross.
I changed the color scheme of Superman's costume to reflect the Crimson Tide uniform, and replaced his iconic shield with the 'Alabama' bullet. I simply cut-and-pasted the head to create an avatar suitable for web useage (i.e. for blog replies, comments, etc.).
Yes, this was inspired by an LSU-themed tiger icon, but Crimson is MUCH prettier than purple, and Big Al is MUCH better-looking!
Feel free to copy and utilize!

NewsRadio 710 Trying to Kill Uncle Henry...?

Well, with the acquisition of both Glenn Beck AND Sean Hannity, 710WNTM (aka Newsradio710) has not only shortened the popular Uncle Henry Show, they've moved the last hour-- 8am to 9am-- to INTERNET ONLY! And if you don't have high-speed internet or the latest browser, you STILL can't listen!
Now, don't get me wrong. I LOVE to listen to BOTH of those guys. But the LOCAL listeners in the Mobile radio market WANT to hear Uncle Henry. He has a long-term connection to his VERY loyal audience. He is the main reason most people I know listen to talk radio.
I'm glad that we finally have this powerful and conservative lineup, but it is unfortunate that it comes at the expense of the station's elder statesman and Mobile's most-respected moral compass.

New Job, New Tool (Or Toy!)

Well, I have completed my first two weeks at my new place of employment. I went to work for American Tire Distributors (formerly Heaffner Tires). Monday-Friday, 7:30-5:00.
Not once this week have I been called a liar, cursed, or threatened. He's got the whole world in his hands.

...And he has an illegitimate son...!

ANYhow, I got my Christmas present early, and am using it to prepare an animation pitch proposal. "ToonBoom Studio" is an idiot-friendly animating program that I will be utilizing to bring my creations to life. AND to bring other folks (like Uncle Henry) to the small screen, as well.

Do I Speak In a Foreign Language?

People today are basically idiots. Noone listens to anyone else. Nearly everyone assumes they know what I am going to say. Hardly anyone possesses any common courtesy anymore. (Don't even get me started on the piss-poor driving in this town. That's a whole 'nother blog entry!)
For instance, a man comes into the auto parts store the other day and asks for a clutch kit (consisting of pressure plate, disc, and release bearing) for a 1982 truck. These are the parts in a manual transmission that help engage the flywheel and shift gears. Since this is a pretty old vehicle, and for the sake of accuracy, I was obliged to ask if this was the original engine and transmission. The man stated "Yes." I sold him his parts and went on about my business, helping other customers and such.
A few hours later the man returns in a huff, slams the now-grimy new parts on the counter, and begins to rant about how I 'gave him the wrong parts'. I apologized, calmly looked the parts up again, acheving the same results. I asked him again "Are you sure this is the original engine and transmission?"
After a brief pause, he replies "Well, yeah, it's one that I put in there....!"

How was your day.....?
I will have to call Uncle Henry about this one.......

Whew! Back Again...!

Well, it's been a while again, which means I've been busy! I am currently designing the Mardi Gras floats for the Mobile, AL builders, Carnival Artists and Mirthco, Inc.
Haven't been able to update in a while, nor have I been able to listen to The Uncle Henry Show. Bummer!
Have done a couple of t-shirt designs, and am again bidding on jobs! I will begin posting project updates shortly on some things I am working on, so be on the lookout for some surprises!
I had hoped to attend Saturday's "A-Day" Alabama Crimson Tide spring football scrimmage, but it looks like that won't be happening. Too busy. Roll Tide ANYway...!
